Holiday Blues or am I just hungry?

Walking home from work today, sun is warming my skin and smell of barbecues is in the air. It’s mid May (not sure how that happened) and in UK we make sure we live in the moment when sun is out. So no matter it’s only Tuesday, ‘barbies’ are out, ready and dinner is served in the garden (if you are lucky to have one) or down the beach.

That smell of food, grilled meat and veg, makes me hungry any day but today it’s all about flashbacks, flashbacks of my holiday only over a week ago.

I must admit, I wasn’t writing enough posts while away. I intended to but then I got pulled into whirlpool of amazing experiences, so much was going on, so much to see and so much to taste. I didn’t want to ‘waste’ my precious time in NYC by sitting down and typing on my phone. For once in my totally social media and phone dependent life, I was looking up from the screen, up and around, observing, people watching,…

But today’s post is about one thing, place, I was taken to by smell of BBQ today. SMORGASBURG in Brooklyn, the best, the largest open-air food market in America. It attracts thousands of people every Saturday (April-October) to East River State Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. And it attracted me too! Definitely one of the places I and my taste buds will never forget. If you are planning your trip to NYC, if you live near by and for whatever reason you have never been, it’s something not to be missed. Hundreds of street food vendors offer food from all around the world, smell is divine and whether you are meat-eater, vegetarian, vegan or just fancy a drink, it’s all there right in front of you and only problem you will have, is to pick what to go for, which has proven to be quite a tricky decision to make. After walking around for ages, peeking into other people’s parcels of food they carried around like they priceless possession, smelling all the different cuisines, I’ve made my decision and gone for Calamari Cone by Bon Chovie, freshly fried and so delicious, I can basically still taste it just thinking about it! I wasn’t disappointed and it was perfect snack to have while sitting by East river watching children throwing rocks or Selfie whores (not being offensive, it’s an actual term on Urban Dictionary) taking pictures by Manhattan skyline. Do you know any better way for foodie (like myself) to spend Saturday lunch time? Nah, I didn’t think so. πŸ˜‰ (check out Bon Chovie on Facebook)

While nibbling on my mini fried octopuses, I’m sipping on my ‘layered to order’ iced tea made with Rambutan Butterflypea base and topped with lemonade. Doesn’t it look absolutely beautiful and perfect for sunny weekend in Brooklyn? So refreshing but mildly sweet and easy to drink and relax. Great choice recommended to me by one of the girls at the_base stand offering variety of these beautiful and tasty All Natural Beverages. Pretty, yummy and good for you! How can I say no, right? Seeing these pictures, BBQ smell still lingering in the air around Brighton and all I want is to be transported back there, where food magic happens. New York with its buzz, city that doesn’t sleep stole my heart and Brooklyn famous for its love for amazing food stole my stomach.

Is it holiday blues or am I just hungry?

This takes me right back …. to my visit to NYC nineteen years ago. Except Shufflebox has managed to bring home her experiences of food and refreshments from a recent trip there!
Now I want to visit again .. and follow in her footsteps πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ’™
