I just came across this excerpt from Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I’ve read this book years ago and really loved it, I would even say it was one of my favourite reads. Not only it covered traveling and food but also a lot about how drastic changes in our life can bring us in front of crossroads and we need to make hard decisions. How some people come into our lives to teach us lessons but are not meant to stay, how soul mate doesn’t necessarily mean the person we are meant to spend the rest of our life with.
“People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that’s what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life.
A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave.
A soul mates purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life, then introduce you to your spiritual master…”
― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love
Do you believe in soul mates?
I have tried watching the movie before and I must say, I really enjoyed it. I must take time to read the book sometime soon

If you would of asked me as a teen about soul mates I would of laughed and said ‘no such thing’. However the way I met my other half was quite strange. We just connected, now many, many years and three kids later we are still very much in love. We’ve never even had an argument, as both of us just can’t be bothered with shouting at one another.

I believe in soul mates. There is something about having a deeper connection with a person that intrigues me.

I believe in soul mates. I think it’s rare but I do believe there are some out there that have/will meet their soul mate.

I don’t know, great question. I believe in connections but all relationships take work and effort. It’s whom you choose to take that journey with. I feel the same about friends, that I would say a select number of friends feel like my soulmates and have been through many growth stages of my life and know me just as well as my husband. That I would be lost w/o those friendships.

Agree, relationships, friendships, all need work and care to grow and become stronger. With some people you just click and get on straight away
